Xbox 360′s Fall Dashboard Update hits November 1
by [@salromano] at 12:26 AM EDT, October 31, 2010 .

Xbox 360′s Fall Update is all set for release across Xbox LIVE on November 1, an e-mail sent out by Microsoft has revealed. The update, which will ready the system for Kinect, will launch three days prior to the motion controller, which hits retail on November 4.

Other than Kinect-compatibility, the update boasts several new additions, including:

  • Enhanced/slightly-redesigned dashboard interface for easier navigation.
  • ESPN3 for Xbox LIVE.
  • Zune Music and ZunePass functionality.
  • Netflix – new interface and search functionality.
  • Avatars 2.0 – new Avatar editor and Avatars with more human-like functions.

Of course, there are other small additions, but these are the major inclusions in the batch.

Be sure to have your Xbox 360 connected come November 1. As per usual, the update should take 5-10 minutes to download and install when it launches.

Thanks, Examiner.

I’m actually looking forward to this, altough it is not a massive change like the original NXE was. Still, I’m looking forward to trying the the new avatar editor and dashboard!

On one hand I’m looking forward to the new design and on the other I don’t really care since I don’t use my 360 nearly as much as my PS3. And after using the NXE for a while I definitely prefer Sony’s XMB because it’s better suited for HDTV’s.

I have my issues with the XMB too but I prefer it over the NXE especially when it comes to watching videos. With the PS3 I just go into the video section and start playing a video. The 360, however, has to load up the Zune application which takes a few moments and then you have to start up the video.

But I digress. Good on Microsoft for at least making improvements to the interface. I can’t say the same for Sony. They make improvements but (arguably) they normally just make the XMB more messy and provide disjointed experiences that most people don’t even use.

Anyone use the video editor/uploader yet? Bet you forgot it even existed, right? Because no one asked for it and no one uses it.
