Sony announces PlayStation Rewards program
Sony’s announced a new rewards program for PlayStation 3 users in the United States today. Titled PlayStation Rewards, the program is designed to give PlayStation owners “the opportunity to gain exclusive status, recognition and rewards” based on the member’s PlayStation 3 activity.
PlayStation Rewards has three reward tiers: Select, Pro and Legendary. Based on what members do on their PlayStation 3s, their tier level will increase. And what do users have to do, you ask? The same thing they’ve been doing since they bought their console. Continue to play games, purchase content off of the PlayStation Network, download TV shows and movies, take e-mail surveys, etc. Each little thing will help your rewards level increase. The greater the level, the greater the rewards. Members can check their reward progress meter on their private profiles to find out how close they are to reaching the next tier.
“PlayStation’s most important asset is its loyal fans and PlayStation Rewards gives us an opportunity to show our appreciation for their amazing passion and desire to continually evolve the gaming world,” said Susan Panico, senior director, PlayStation Network. “We can’t thank our fans enough for the feedback they have given us over the years and look forward to even more dialog to help us evolve PlayStation Rewards to make it the best possible loyalty program it can be.”
Rewards for the program include exclusive PlayStation Network avatars, dynamic themes, PlayStation Home add-ons, and the opportunity to participate in exclusive contests and giveaways. One of the giveaways was already announced as an all-expenses-paid trip to the Consumer Electronics Show next year in Las Vegas.
PlayStation Rewards isn’t set to launch until Spring 2011, however, a beta should be rolling out tomorrow for select PlayStation Plus and Gamer Advisory Panel members.
I’m a G.A.P. member. Hopefully I’ll get in and be able to provide some more insight into the program.
