PlayStation Move sells over one million in North America
by [@salromano] at 07:00 AM EDT, October 22, 2010 .

People sure do like PlayStation Move. Sony’s announced that the September-released motion controller has shipped over one million units across North and Latin America in its first 30 days of sales.

“PlayStation Move is the most recent example of how product innovation continues to provide our customers with new and exciting ways to enjoy our technology,” said Jack Tretton, Chief Executive Officer, Sony Computer Entertainment America LLC. “We’ve shipped over one million units in the first month in North and Latin America. Retail demand is incredibly strong and we’re working hard to keep the product in stock. We believe consumers have already shown their preference for a precise, interactive game experience. We are on target to meet our end of year goals and expect sales to increase as our publishers and developers continue to update popular titles and introduce new games.”

Additionally, it was also revealed recently that PlayStation Move has sold over 1.5 million units in Europe. Numbers for Japan are likely to come next month, though, as the motion controller launched there only yesterday.

    Great news for Sony as I’m sure Kinect will probably outperform that and not because it’s better tech but because Microsoft has a better marketing machine.

    Sony does have Kevin Butler but let’s be honest, PS Move is basically Wii 2.0. People have already (basically) seen Move and while we’ve all seen Kinect before too in the Eye Toy, Microsoft is doing something different enough to make themselves stand out from the rest.

    The whole “Jump In” campaign for the 360 still applies if not more so, which is really interesting if you consider that Microsoft has been using “Jump In” since the beginning.

    Big ups to Microsoft marketing for using a prophetic campaign.

    Well, I’ve always seen it this way.

    Wii = Motion Controller
    Kinect = Camera
    Move = Motion Controller + Camera

    I’ve yet to see anything convincing from Kinect that doesn’t look amazingly suspicious. Add that to an unimpressive Kinect lineup (okay, PS Move’s isn’t great either, but there’s less that appeals to me from Kinect)

    Don’t get me wrong – I haven’t put Kinect out of the picture for me. When the library gets a bit bigger, they’re might be some really good games on it.

    Enough for me to take it out of the cupboard and dust off the old 360 again.

    I’m looking forward to seeing some honest reviews of Kinect, really.

  4. Screw both Kinect and Move. Not until there is something only playable via the motion controls and there being an amzing title that I will consider it. I am only considering Kinect myself if Steel Battalion and what Grasshopper Manufacture has in store ends up something special.
