After teasing Resident Evil 6‘s appearance to come “shortly”, Capcom Global Head of Production Keiji Inafune has revealed the company’s hopes that Dead Rising will replace Resident Evil as the company’s top franchise.
“The goal for Dead Rising 2 is to replace the Resident Evil franchise and become number one IP within Capcom,” Inafune told Eurogamer.
Resident Evil as a series has already sold over 44 million units worldwide. It’ll be quite hard to top. Resident Evil 5 sold 5 million units alone.
When Inafune was asked whether or not a Dead Rising 3 was on the cards, he said that it all depends on sales.
“Until Dead Rising 2 sells we probably can’t start talking about spin-offs,” Inafune said.
“If it’s received pretty well, yes we would consider a sequel. But at the moment we just don’t know.”
Dead Rising 2 is out for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC on September 28, 2010.

Can’t say I’m particularly happy with this; altough my reasons are highly personal (I hate Dead Rising but love Resident Evil), so I won’t go into a tirade of complaints!
I’ve been watching videos of this upcoming Dead Rising 2 and I am not impressed. I’m not saying the game will suck, it’s just not my kind of game and I can’t believe they want to replace Resident Evil with such a game.
I’d much rather play Resident Evil, Devil May Cry & Onimusha than Dead Rising.
I am liking these Resident Evil 6 hints that are starting to show up, It’s true that Resident Evil 5 didn’t quite feel like a Resident Evil game but it’s still one of the most enjoyable games i’ve played this gen.
