Bungie developing new engine for new IP
by [@salromano] at 05:35 PM EDT, September 13, 2010 .

Bungie won’t be recycling the Halo engine on their new feat with Activision. Bungie’s said during a recent interview with Develop that they’re building a completely new engine for the new multiplatforrm IP.

“I think it goes hand-in-hand with our independent spirit,” Bungie community manager Brian Jarrard said.

“Just like we don’t want to develop a game off someone else’s IP, we want to push our own technology in the same way. That’s going to be our position for the foreseeable future”

“Yeah, [the new engine is] actually in development, so I would say it’s in a stage where, technically we’re still at the end of a pre-production mode,” Jarrard said.

“But now that Reach is done the full weight of our team is rolling into the project. Real work is underway.”

With development now lifting off, when do you think we’ll finally see a public reveal? E3 2011, maybe?
