Harry Potter gets Kinect compatibility

During EA’s Gamescom press conference, the company’s revealed that their upcoming Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I video game will feature compatibility with Xbox 360′s Kinect. Ronald Weasley’s twin brothers from the film came up on stage to demo the hands-free motion controller.
Looks like the characters move along, stop, you shoot some things with your wand, and then they move along again. On-rails for short. It has co-op, too.
The game’s out November 16, 2010.

On-rails is unfortunately the future for Kinect’s inclusion in titles like these. Joy Ride, Harry Potter, Forza Kinect, Kinect Adventures all offer on-rails experiences in their respective genres. Kinect’s inclusion here seems mostly an after-thought, which people need to realize NOW before they drop down the $150 expecting more.
Allegedly, Kinect’s successor has been in development for awhile and will most likely launch with the release of the Next XBOX. As Sony and Nintendo, who were previously shown the 3DV camera before Microsoft opted to buy the company and develop Kinect, had the foresight to realize, game control with a camera is very limited and some form of controller will be necessary to play control intensive games such as platformers and first-person shooters.
