Final Fantasy XIV is a PC and PlayStation 3 game… but why isn’t it on Xbox 360 as well? Eurogamer interviewed game producer Hiromichi Tanaka to get some answers.
The biggest reason, it seems, is that Microsoft “wants to have a closed environment for Xbox Live” and that Square-Enix was “unable to come to an agreement” in regards to that. This echos what other developers have said in the past, most recently Cryptic, who cancelled MMO Champions Online for the console.
Speaking with GameInformer, other sources also suggest that MMOs have been having a hard time passing through Microsoft’s closed policies due to disagreements over subscription fees. With Microsoft seeking a portion of said fees, this is likely the case for Final Fantasy XIV as well.
Final Fantasy XI was obviously the exception to this situation as it was released before these new policies were implemented.

I figured something was up with mmo’s on the 360. I noticed ABP is PC only now too.
Ugh, I wish Microsoft would rewrite a lot of their policies. Anything involving MMOs, text, and the like are just horrid on the system.
ok i have nothing really against xbox but MMO’s are just not gonna happen for the system ps3 and PC own that area it kills me when a developer saying there making a MMO for 360 *Coff Coff secret world * im just why are u even trying were others have failed.
