Turn 10: “Nobody gives a shit” about PlayStation Move
by [@salromano] at 07:23 PM EDT, June 23, 2010 .

Turn 10 community manager Chespace has expressed his beliefs that “nobody gives a shit” about Sony’s upcoming PlayStation Move motion controller, saying that “even Sony fans would rather talk about Kinect.” Turn 10 is the company known for creating the Forza Motorsport franchise on Xbox 360.

The statement comes by way of a NeoGAF post made earlier today.

“I don’t know if Move is going to bomb, but at this point, nobody gives a shit. Even Sony fans would rather talk about Kinect.”

He adds: “I dunno, it just feels like Sony threw a Move party and nobody showed up. It’s just so unimaginative. I didn’t care for Wii motion plus. How is Move any different?”

He goes on to talk about the Forza Motorsport Kinect demo they showed at E3, saying you can play it sitting down as well as standing up.

“As for sitting down to play the Forza preview we showed — I don’t expect you to know this of course since you weren’t at E3, but you can play the game sitting down and Dan showed this in the demo booth.”

Thanks, Meodia.

Of course hes going to talk up the Kinect when he publishes Forza only for the 360.

And Sony fans talk about the Kinect alright, just not how good it is, but how terrible it is.

Please don’t post flame bait like this from someone who is a known troll against everything Sony on Neogaf. There’s been plenty of positive press about the Move. Can you believe this guy was once a gaming journalist? He seems to be great at viewing things objectively . I don’t think it’s in his job description to shit on Sony’s products or games.

I think he has to, MS is really banking on kinect to be a huge hit for them. I think it can be, but just not for gaming. You need a controller, its part of gaming.

As for the move, Sony is putting it out there for people who want to give it a go, but don’t expect a million dollar advertisement plan for the move.

MS has already said they have a large marketing plan for Kinect underway, somewhere in the millions. I read that and realized just how much they are going for it with Kinect. This is like an all or nothing for them, which I think is insane. 150 usd is far to much for a casual consumer, and unlike the wii, everything you need does not come available in a simplified package for a respectable price.

Each year one of the big three put out a stinker in the hardware section of gaming, for example, last year was Sony with the PSPgo. They played it smart and didn’t put all there eggs in one basket with it, so when it sunk like the titanic, they didn’t lose quite so much.

To sum this up, basically…if no one gives a shit about Move, the same thing can be said for Kinect.

And where sony is treating the move (Which is still not a great price for the entire set of hardware) as a side project, MS is treating Kinect like an AAA title.

If they lowered the price down to 50, and released it with the sports game pack, along with something like Fable 3, that could be successful for them. Going about it the way they currently are spells disaster imo.

I deny this man. Kinect needs you to walk (Or at least look it) to make your character move around, while the Move, you have buttons to move you and stuff. Sure the game these guys are making you can sit down, but I speak for the Kinect it’s self. It’s not as great as some people would like to believe. At least, that’s what I say.

While most things I was going to say have been echoed above in posts by Zero and Eric, I would add that I personally, as a prospective buyer of both controllers, think the Move is shaping up much better than Kinect.

My reason is simple; a physical controller, something to hold. That and the E3 presentations made the Move feel far more capable of ‘real’ game support than the Kinect, of whom MS focused entirely on a casual audience.

I do not like fanboyism of any degree, especially when it comes from a proffesional such as this. However as said above, it is only natural that he is going to attempt to debunk the Kinect. I’ll take it all with a pinch of salt.

Yeah, and we all give a shit about Kinect…right.

Dear Microsoft – all that you have presented, everything you have shown during E3 and all your lovely demo videos. I’ve already seen it. 5 years earlier, on PS2 with EyeToy.

    Kinect Sports = EyeToy Kinetics.
    Kinectimals = EyePet

    The list could go on.

We can say the same about Nintendo Wii.

So….i don’t really give a shit about this EyeToy 2 from Microsoft. It might be cool – later, but as for now, it’s pathetic to create such a hype around a thing which is just a spin-off of Sony’s idea. And if i had to choose – i’d choose Move. It’s precise, it’s physical, it has a revolutionary thing called “buttons” which are a great support for gamers ( yes,yes my friends, they are – no matter what Microsoft says ).

Another point is that Move is more like Wii – and we can’t discuss if Wii was successful or not. It was – and it’s not a matter of discussion. Kinect is more like EyeToy. Was EyeToy successful ? I think not – at least we can’t compare it’s success to Wii.

And just for the record – i’m not into Move either. I simply don’t like motion gaming so please don’t accuse me of flaming or whatever :)

Sorry guys, i just really wanted to add this :

“It’s just so unimaginative. I didn’t care for Wii motion plus. How is Move any different?””

How Kinect is any different from EyeToy ? Gosh this is blind, hypocritical marketing…

I don’t totally disagree with this statement. From a marketing perspective I’ve seen almost nothing on Move meanwhile Kinect returns to Jimmy Fallon’s show.

I’m not sure what Sony’s strategy is but they’re far from the talk of the town when compared to Kinect.

I do believe that Move is a much better solution but Kinect has that wow factor going it. You have to admit that while Kinect isn’t a great for gaming (not hard core gaming anyway) being able to control other devices using only your hands and/or voice is pretty cool and this is what will make Kinect stand out from Wii and especially Move.

In a world dominated by soundbites and with people’s attention spans at 10 seconds people won’t care that they can’t play Gears of War or Halo. They’ll just want to jump and run in place because it’s fun.

While I think Move will win the hearts of “true” gamers I think Kinect will probably win the popularity contest.

Not for $150 and not with the games they showed. No way.

  9. I was more impressed with Kinect from last year’s E3 when it didn’t look like Nintendo but now I am least impressed and more so with Move. In my opinion, I don’t give a damn about either even though I will likely get both just to have.
