Rare turns twenty-five, rebrands
by [@salromano] at 06:35 AM EDT, June 2, 2010 .

Banjo-Kazooie and Perfect Dark developer Rare is celebrating its 25th anniversary this summer and is celebrating with a company logo rebranding.

Thats’ right. The old Rare logo as we know it is long gone. The new logo is described by Rare as “both modern and classic,” which can be “applied equally well to Rare itself.”

The new logo will eventually lead to a complete relaunch of the firm’s official website.

“Both Rare and the games industry have seen massive changes over the past 25 years, and right now it feels as if both we and the industry are continuing to evolve at an ever-increasing pace,” Rare head of studio Mark Betteridge said in the press release.

“With this landmark anniversary coming up, and knowing that we have a really exciting future ahead, we felt now was the time to have a new image more in keeping with an innovative and creative entertainment company which aspires to be around for at least the next 25 years!”

Here’s the old logo, for comparison’s sake:

We’ve gone ahead and attached each of the four versions of Rare’s new logo. Which one do you like best?

The new logo may be modern but it’s also boring. Looks like they did it using Word using Century Gothic font in bold and taking the old half ‘R’ and putting into a triangle. And the text and logo are so far away that they almost look like they’re not supposed to be next to each other.

Ever since they got bought by MS they’ve done absolutely nothing and haven’t managed to do anything in this current console generation that was a critical and mainstream success. At this point who cares?
