New Resident Evil in development?

During a recent interview with Capcom CEO Haruhiro Tsujimoto, he reveals to Nikkei BP that a new Resident Evil may be in the works. Tsujimoto hints at it by saying the company would like to do something for the game series considering that the new movie releases in September.
“The 3D movie Resident Evil IV Afterlife starring Milla Jovovich is scheduled to hit theaters on September 10,” Tsujimoto told Nikkei BP, as translated by Andriasang. “Timed with the movie’s release, we’d like to do something to heat up the game series.”
As with all these recent teases and rumors – E3 happens next week. Perhaps Capcom will announce a new game there. Then again, perhaps not. It could just be Resident Evil PSP.

Resident Evil PSP.
RE PSP is still in the works right?
That’s good to hear, but let it be more horror, less action-game :)
Resident Evil 4 and 5 may have been heavy on action which has dissapointed fans, but come on will we not agree that Resident Evil 4 was the best of them.
Of course Resident Evil 2 will always be a game to remember, but do we really need another slow walking runaround zombie version. They were great in the day but have grown old over the years. There is only so much you can do with that formula.
I say keep the 4 and 5 gameplay but also make it more horror. Lost in Nightmares was short, but it was on the correct track.
Count me as one of the few who couldn’t stand playing RE5. The game looked incredible and the environments were great but the controls bugged the crap out of me.
I eventually traded it in (for Red Dead) because I just wasn’t having fun. For those that prefer the old-school method, that’s fine. Just make sure that the zombies don’t have new school controls and don’t attack in packs of 20 when you only have 15 bullets and dumb (but friggin’ hot) A.I. controlled partner.
After seeing the Scrawl pre E3 video’s from last week, I went and had a look at the “RE4 before it was an action game” video which was mentioned. I must admit, in my opinion anyway, it looked a LOT better than the finished product. Not to say I didn’t like RE4, but I would have much prefered it to be more…well….like an RE game!
The same goes for 5 really, I hated it when I first got it, though it grew on me over time.
I just hope that this new Resi, whether RE PSP or a whole new console title, goes at least somewhat back to the series’ roots. I am a long time fan of the series and would like to see it back to how it was in at least some ways.
Judging by the comments, it seems I’m not alone either in this preference for the ‘old’ style! Maybe Capcom will listen…
