Microsoft themselves list Kinect for $150
by [@salromano] at 10:12 AM EDT, June 22, 2010 .

If the GameStop listings for Kinect aren’t easy to believe, then how about Microsoft’s own online store? Though the company has yet to officially announce pricing for the motion camera, the same price is showing up everywhere, even on their own virtual store.

$149.99 it looks to be. If so, then that’s a big ouch on the wallet. What are your thoughts on the matter?

Thanks, Engadget.

$150 USD is approximately £100 GBP at current exchange rates (correct me if I’m wrong). This, to me, is a pretty hefty price tag!

I have the PS Move on pre order already and have found it to be very well priced all round (£50 for a bundle!). However the Kinect at this price feels more than a little overpriced.

Furthermore it is not going to compete well with the Move at this price difference imo. Considering the Move is, imo, a better system for ‘real’ games, and is cheaper to boot, the Kinect may fail to reach any further than the casual market, oh whom even they could be put off by a high price.

The Kinect itself is very exciting technology, but the games on show at E3 did little to convince me to pre order it. The only game using Kinect I thought looked truly good was Forza Motorsport, with the rest being very casual affairs which do not sit pretty with seasoned gamers. that said, I have always beleived the Natal/Kinect to have fantastic potential if put to use properly by developers.

As it stands, I may wait until some games I want to play are confirmed to have Kinect support (such ash Heavy Rain on Move) before I plump 100 notes for the unit.

I do not think any of these contollers will take over the traditional controller any time soon, altough used properly I will not deny they can add a great immersion to certain games.

In a nutshell – $150 feels too expensive. I wonder what is included in the package for that price?
