inFAMOUS 2 takes on New Orleans; devs talk Cole redesign

The first bits of information on Sucker Punch’s recently announced inFAMOUS 2 have come out of this month’s Game Informer today, highlighting the town’s new location: the New Orleans-based New Marais.

New Marais is a fictional New Orleans, just as Liberty City in Grand Theft Auto IV was a fictional New York City. The Cole McGrath that will roam the city isn’t a younger Cole, but a completely redesigned Cole with a new voice actor, too.

According to the developers, this new design is to make Cole a “more appealing, more compelling main character.” He’s described as an “EXTREME sports star – like Travis Pastrana, Tony Hawk or Chris Sharma – what would they be like if they had super powers.”

Cole’s to be a “super-super hero” in inFAMOUS 2, apparently. He’ll keep his electric powers and learn some new abilities outside of electricity. He’ll also be able to use melee weapons rather than solely his supernatural abilities.

As for other small details: the camera’s moved closer, cut-scenes join in alongside the narrative comic-strips, and more things will go on in the game’s society (more cars, more people, etc).

Hopefully this time, people won’t be able to blink after you kill them. Last time I checked, that’s not normal.

Thanks, Examiner and PlayStation Informer.

So they’re basically giving Cole a complete face-lift. I guess it’s no different than getting a new James Bond or yet another actor to play Batman, Superman or Rhodey (from Iron Man).

I welcome the change especially the voice actor. The first voice started to get on my nerves after a while but I chalked it up to the current running through his body that’s forced him to sound like he gargled with razor blades.

Let’s hope the graphics engine gets a face-lift too. The in-game cutscenes were bearable at best. Everyone just stood still when they talked and the lip syncing was horrible to put it mildly.

    His redesign sounds stupid.
