Wada clarifies multiplatform Final Fantasy Versus XIII statement
by [@salromano] at 06:48 PM EDT, May 18, 2010 .

Update: We’ve updated the post with a better translation.

Square Enix CEO Yoichi Wada has responded to recent reactions of Final Fantasy Versus XIII possibly coming to Xbox 360.

Written in a Twitter update, Wada has basically said that he’s surprised by the recent uproar on the internet about Final Fantasy Versus XIII possibly coming to Xbox 360 and reminds people that nothing has been decided.

“It looks like the ‘net is heating up. Versus on Xbox? What I said at the earnings press conference was just that until a formal announcement is made at the announcement time, all points about all titles are not finalized.” (translation via Andriasang)

E3 is around the corner. Hopefully, Final Fantasy Versus XIII will make an appearance.

Thanks, Kagari.

Versus XIII possibly coming to Xbox 360, I’m starting to think Final Fantasy will never be as good as past games anymore and maybe my Final Fantasy days are coming to an end. Final Fantasy was 1 of Sony’s biggest franchises and now Microsoft is starting to take over. Whatever plans Microsoft had to beat Sony might just be paying off.

I hope Square make the decision to decline a 360 port,
but than again Final Fantasy might have changed so much that there is no return to the greatness it once was.

I can’t say that I don’t hate the decision. FFXIII going multi was a huge talk about… everyone either got excited or mad at the decision. We have to try and keep in mind that Square-Enix is only owned by Sony by 10% and that Square is a business with an extremely popular franchise as Final Fantasy. They are going to want to expand there audience in order to make more business, that’s what corporations do. As I am one that has always held Sony close to heart and the FF saga is the main reason for that I am disappointed that it isn’t a PS3 exclusive but my excitement for the game shouldn’t be diminished just cause it will be available on another platform. I think it’s a wise career move for Square.

I understand what your saying Ruki, about Square Enix being a busness but Final Fantasy XIII in my opinion was a step back and could have been a hell of a lot better.

I will say that anything that bares the Final Fantasy name i’ll pay for, but I want to enjoy my games, and I did not enjoy Final Fantasy XIII as much as the others. For the first time in a Final Fantasy game I was getting bored and had to force myself to continue playing.

Square Enix can do alot better than what they gave us, and i’m sorry to say that the PS3 is where the power is at for this series.

Go Multiplatform and you have to go through changes, and sometimes changes ruin games rather than make them better.

Well I see where you are coming from but Square had announced several times that Final Fantasy XIII was first developed as a game for the PS3 then copied over to the 360 therefore development on the game going multi didn’t really effect the quality of the game at all. As for the playability of the game, Square had also announced several mistakes they made… the major one being that Crystal Tools was a engine they jumped to. They didn’t try to evolve their previous engine to fit the new gen, they just scrapped it and started a-new. That caused development to be able to fit the PS3′s power, but not make development any easier for such a highly visual appealing game. So Square is aware that we missed out on what FFXIII could have REALLY been. Think of XIII more as that trial and error game for the development team, the new gen systems, for their new engine, and for their first attempt to share the final fantasy franchise with both PS3 and 360 simultaneously. Square will give us much better product and I personally think that VERSUS will really be able to bring us there. Tetsuya Nomura has always been a pretty good innovator and with him providing a different style of Final Fantasy makes me very excited.
