At this year’s E3 conference, Sony Computer Entertainment America will finally announce plans for PlayStation Network’s premium service plan, if a source of VG247‘s is to be believed.
The service is to cost “less than £50 per year”, which amounts to around $75 US dollars. It’ll come with a plan to download one free PlayStation Network game per month, with a choice of “two to four” every month”.
“If you work it out, PSN games cost an average of £6-9 each, so over a year you’re basically going to be breaking even,” said the source.
Sony will also announce a streaming music application at the show, as well. It’s thought to feature the ability to play in the background.
Also according to the source, current PlayStation Network users won’t get gimped with the premium package. If you thought cross-game chat was being saved for the premium service, you’ve thought wrong.
“I can tell you now, 100 percent, that that’s not the case,” the source assured.
“There’s nothing in the premium package which will gimp regular PSN users.”
The announcement should be a major part of Sony’s press conference, which should also heavily focus on PlayStation Move, as well.

It better be more than a game a month otherwise why bother?
With this and the announcement of a redesigned XMB I’m actually getting really excited for Sony’s press event.
Jury’s still out on Microsoft and whether Natal will actually be worth anything. Seems like something (good or bad) would’ve leaked by now but there’s still plenty of time for that.
Then again, if it’s bad they certainly don’t want anyone talking about it. Normally leaks only happen when there’s something good to talk about.
