New PS3 firmware coming in June

Sony’s releasing the next PlayStation 3 firmware update in June complete with 3D gaming, according to a Q&A in the latest issue of PlayStation: The Official Magazine.
“The firmware update coming in June that will get your PS3 ready for 3D gaming won’t do the same for its Blu-ray functionality, but according to Sony that will come at a later date,” the magazine wrote in response to a 3D blu-ray question. “3D is simply too big for this to not happen at all.”
Yesterday, rumors pointed to PlayStation 3 firmware version 3.40 already being in developers hands. Perhaps this is the June update.

I guess it’s good news for all 6 people that own an 3DHDTV (wow, that was long) and I doubt it’ll be released to any fanfare since the rest of us working stiffs don’t have the cheese to invest in a (here we go again) 3DHDTV.
Now, if this were the Blu-ray 3D update I’d be a little more interested. When they do eventually do this though I think they should have a press conference with James Cameron and announce that Avatar in 3D is available for the PS3 then create a PS3 bundle with Avatar (or maybe even preloaded on the HDD).
Otherwise, all this 3D talk isn’t all that exciting… for now.
