Natal being “wasted on games”, says Bethesda dev

A Bethesda developer has expressed her concerns that Microsoft’s Xbox 360 motion controller Natal is being “wasted on games”, believing that if Microsoft opens the Natal API like Apple’s done with iPhone, someone can make a “killer app that has nothing to do with gaming.”

“Seeing [Natal] in action, I was totally blown away by it,” Bethesda production director Ashley Cheng said in a Wednesday blog post. “It seems wasted on games, really.”

“Microsoft should open the Natal API up like Apple does with the iPhone/iPad. Let anyone make a Natal “app.” I bet someone makes a killer app that has nothing to do with gaming.”

While it sounds like it could be a great idea, I don’t really see it happening. That is, unless Microsoft allows Natal development for XNA titles – which would be pretty freaking cool.

If only every system had an API available where any indie developer can make and release games for others to download and play.

Thanks, VideoGamer.
