LittleBigPlanet 2 officially announced for PS3
Sony Computer Entertainment has officially announced the return of Sackboy (as if he ever went anywhere). LittleBigPlanet 2 is scheduled to hit PlayStation 3 in Winter 2010, boasting oodles of new features.
LittleBigPlanet 2 features a revamped Popit, allowing players to “bring your characters to life, compose your own music, direct cinematic masterpieces, wire controllers directly in to your contraptions, connect easy to use switches, microchips and circuit boards to build epic bosses, vehicles, machines, and puzzles.”
A new set of tools available in the sequel will allow players to create not only levels, but “WHOLE GAMES”. The game will allow players to “reset the control buttons for any object and change the rules to any level—imagine racing games, flying games, and shooters–you can now take control of anything!” That’s not all: “Also included are new multiplayer abilities so games can have life meters, scoring, and other elements to advance the types of games available for a social/competitive multiplayer experience, including puzzle games, sports, action/adventure, and more.”
The community features have been upgraded, revamping the search system in order to “enhance your ability to discover exactly what you want to find.” Players now have Activity Streams so you can see what friends are up to, and every single creation in LittleBigPlanet 2 will have “its own home on the web, with a page for every creator and every level.”
A new single-player story is in order, as well. Media Molecule has provided details.
Happy that no more demands are being made to him after his successful adventure to return sharing to LittleBigPlanet, it’s all going swimmingly for Sackboy… That is, until a some kind of inter-dimensional, hyper-spatial, 1800 watt Vacuum Cleaner appears in the skies, causing quite the ruckus and sucking Sackboy up into its musty bowels. All jolly sinister and most inconvenient.
Happily, a jolly nice fellow named Larry Da Vinci intervenes and rescues him from what has come to be known as The Sucker. Da Vinci, it turns out, is in charge of “The Alliance”, a semi-secret, semi-organized group devoted to fighting The Sucker before it destroys the whole Cosmos.
Not only will LittleBigPlanet 2 come with a load of new features, it will also allow players to access the over two million levels created in the first game. That means you’ll get two million user-created levels right out of the box. Crazy, we know.
