Dead Rising 2: Case Zero “bridges the gap” between the first two games
by [@salromano] at 02:07 PM EDT, April 20, 2010 .

Earlier this year, Capcom announced that a prequel to Dead Rising 2 would arrive exclusively on Xbox 360. Today they’ve detailed that prequel, which takes place three years before the events of Dead Rising 2 and two after those of Dead Rising.

Dead Rising 2: Case Zero puts players in the shoes of Chuck Greene (the same protagonist in Dead Rising 2) as he and his daughter Katie are found trapped in Small Creek, a desert town overrun by zombies.

Case Zero is meant to “bridge the gap” between the first and second game as well as “give players a taste of the gameplay they will experience in Dead Rising 2 as they mow down zombies in masses, create combo weapons and rescue survivors.” You’ll get to hear about what happened to Frank West, as well.

According to Capcom’s Keiji Inafune (via Kotaku), Case Zero is mean to be “a test case” for those who want to try out Dead Rising 2. It’s like: instead of creating a demo, create a lower-priced version of the game with a different story. That way it has meaning and gives the players something to try at the same time.

Interesting concept. We’ll see how it goes about.
