Cross-game voice chat, it seems. Followed by the ability to play PS2 games and the auto-syncing of trophies. This is according to a new community focus of the PlayStation.Blog launched yesterday in order for Sony to hear out what the PlayStation 3 user base wants out of their system.
With 4,191 votes on cross-game voice chat in one day, I think they’ve made the message pretty clear.
The following is a list of the top twenty features/things requested by PS3 users since the launch of the ideas platform:
1. Cross Game Voice Chat
2. Software Emulation for PS2 games
3. Auto-Syncing Trophies
4. Kevin Butler hosting the E3 Sony Press Conference! (this should be number one)
5. PS Button – Auto Read Message Upon Notification
6. New Avatars
7. Fix the PS3’s web browser
8. Make PS2 games downloadable via PlayStation Store
9. MKV Support for the PS3
10. Seperate PSN logins for each player
11. Metal Gear Solid 4 trophy patch
12. More Remastered PS2 Titles
13. Power USB when PS3 is Off
14. Skype for PS3 (with PSEye Support)
15. Storage of Game Saves Online
16. In-Game XMB Customization (Faster Loading)
17. Appear offline
18. In game music for ALL titles
19. Update to Trophy Card
20. Universal Party System
There’s no excuse for Sony not to hear gamers’ pleas now. Have an idea? Want to promote another? Check out the ideas site at the link.

I would like to know what the actual usage numbers are for 360 owners that have cross-game chat. Are a majority of people actually using it or is everyone clamoring for something they probably won’t use anyway?
I love the Kevin Butler idea. That would be awesome and since neither MS or Nintendo have anyone close to Kevin’s popularity it would be huge for Sony to interject some humor into their presentation rather than having Steve Tretton up there sweating buckets and sounding like a robot as he navigates the teleprompter.
At the very least he could MC the event and bring out Steve, Kaz and others but he should definitely be a part of the show.
Don’t think in-game music for ALL titles will happen since it’s more up to the developer to allow that. I like the Skype support with the PS Eye. That would be nice.
You can forget about getting power through the USB while the system is off. Not even a desktop computer can do that.
The PS2 thing would be nice too as would the universal party system or some sort of party system. Basically Sony needs to emulate XBL more but there’s that pesky elephant in the room. In other words, will gamers actually be willing to pay for it?
You’d be surprised how much people use voice chat on LIVE. I mainly play online with friends and my girlfriend from time to time so we’re always on the headset.
On top of that, there’s a lot of idiots out there who just don’t know when to shut up – making talking to your friends in an actual game a little more difficult than it should be.
Then again, those idiots are rare in most cases.
I use the voice chat when Im XBOX live quite a bit to talk with friends etc, though I will admit that the Party Chat can get very annoying if random people join and scream down the mic.
But generally I feel its a good thing
That’s why you have to set it to a Private Party.
Why is it impossible to have power off USB power ? All Mac computers have that, and Xbox has it as well, so i guess it is possible, but i dont know if it wouldnt require new hardware for PS3. Anyway, i dont really care about this voice-chat thing. What i would vote for is PS2 emulation…actually this is one of the biggest PS3 values that was taken away from it…i just hope it will come back some day.
The games I play I always play with groups of people so Croos game chat itself I could care less about since I want to talk to the people I am playing with and not people playing other games. If I want to talk to my friends in passing, I will use the phone.
