During his panel at the Game Developers Conference last week, Final Fantasy XIII director Motomu Toriyama threw out a few small details about the other two pieces of the Fabula Nova Crystallis series.
Toriyama explained the link between each game, saying that each game has its own unique story, however, is only directly related by a “Crystal Mythos” motif. This basically means in each game, there’s a theme where the fates of ordinary humans are controlled by gods. In Final Fantasy XIII‘s case, the gods are the fal’Cie.
Toriyama also shared details that Final Fantasy Versus XIII and Final Fantasy Agito XIII will focus on story-driven gameplay, such as Final Fantasy XIII did. By the sounds of it, Versus and Agito will feature that same linearity. Although that wasn’t directly stated.
There’s hope Versus won’t be so linear, though. Nomura said back in February that the game may miss E3 due to development changes in the game’s world map. Why would the game have a world map if it were linear?
Thanks, JoyStiq.

I guess theres no real saying until some gameply is released. if there is truly a world map then obviously it is not linear, unless the world map heavil restricts on where you can go.
I’m also very interested to see how the games’ fit into the “Crystal Mythos” and how much they relate to FFXIII.
Well…….we need FF in a open world like oldtimes, after IX all has change. Im not gonna preorder another FF if its so straightahead, and i a diehard fan i bought VIII, IX, X, X-2, XII and XIII, and of course im ending buying anyway but at lowprice.
I like this linearity of FF13. It’s cool – you can get grasped by the story. Still, it would be nice if they didnt limit character development for so long…if FF VS13 will be the same – ill be glad and will probably enjoy the story as much as i do with FF13.
Linear is better…..
