Square Enix start work at “new generation game engine”
by [@salromano] at 01:41 PM EDT, March 12, 2010 .

Square Enix have begun work on a next generation game engine. They’re “seeking the highest level of talent” for their “new generation game engine development project.”

A picture of none other than Cloud Strife is displayed on their recruitment page. Under the page, Square Enix writes that thanks to systems like PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, gaming visuals and audio have seen a dramatic increase in quality. Square says to meet this quality, game development environments need not only “reforms,” but “revolution.”

“At Square Enix, in anticipation of the appearance of next generation platforms, we’ve started development on a new generation game engine for competing beyond the level of the strong developers throughout the world, and are presently seeking a lot of talent.”

Square’s seeking a game engine system programmer, 3D graphics core programmer, online system programmer, Windows application programmer, rendering programmer, server/DB programmer, plug-in programmer, technical artist and technical writer. They require past experience on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 as well as high knowledge of SPUs.

Wonder what Square has up their sleeve?

  1. Maybe this is because the cristal tools cant release big towns in HD textures, and thats one of the biggest request from the press and the fans for FFXIII, like Motomu Toriyama, they cannot made towns or worldmap because its too hard and take so much time.

    Thumb up 0

Hmm, so wait, is this new engine in development for PS3/360 or for new, as yet unknown systems such as the PS4 etc?

I was hoping there would be no talk of the PS4 or Xbox 720 for a while yet, this generation feels far more prepared to be longer imo.
