Source: Insomniac Games going multiplatform
by [@salromano] at 07:58 AM EDT, March 13, 2010 .

Ratchet & Clank and Resistance developer Insomniac Games may be shifting their focus from purely PlayStation 3 games to Xbox 360 games as well, if a “trusted source” of IGN’s is to believe.

Late last year, a billboard ad was leaked for the unannounced Resistance 3. Allegedly, it’s to be used in Sony’s upcoming feature film Battle: Los Angeles. Considering Sony owns the Resistance property , if the developer is really going multiplatform, this would still remain a PlayStation 3 exclusive title.

Earlier this month, the developer also revealed that they have “more than one game” in development.

When contacted, Insomniac CEO Ted Price said only that the developer doesn’t comment on rumors and speculation.

I guess that means that Insomniac isn’t owned by Sony. Relations must be breaking down between Price and Sony otherwise why go multiplatform and risk damaging the hands that have been feeding them since their inception.

I don’t think this is good news for anyone. There’s a good chance that both Resistance and Ratchet will be less than what they could be because the dev team is stretched too thin in trying to create two (or more) different games for two different consoles.

Or maybe after Resistance 3 is out they’ll just give up on both franchises and start up a brand new IP. But will that IP be successful enough to keep the company afloat? They’re a talented team no doubt but they’ve made their bread and butter on the Playstation platform and developed some really distinct franchises. For them to branch off and do something different now could ultimately lead to demise of the entire company.

A bit dramatic maybe but this would be different if story if they had other IP’s that were on other consoles but their entire existence has been based on Playstation-only franchises.

Meh, maybe if it was a trusted member on neogaf i’d believe, but IGN? Nah.

This rumors plague the web every year, I think sooner o later Sony gonna buy Insomniac, just like they did with MM, ND, PD, TI, GG, Evolution, etc…
