Rumor: LittleBigPlanet 2 due this year
by [@salromano] at 06:13 AM EDT, March 8, 2010 .

According to a source, Sony will be releasing a game titled LittleBigPlanet 2 this year, whatever that is.

GDC starts tomorrow and Sony’s holding a press conference. It’s unknown whether or not any game from Media Molecule will be mentioned, but it’s possible.

Just last week, Sony had announced that they’ve fully purchased Media Molecule.

Back in 2008, Media Molecule told BBC that they were already at work on a sequel.

We’ll keep you updated on what becomes of this. For now, we’ll mark it as a rumor.

Thanks, VG247.

I honestly don’t think there is a need for LBP2. The first LBP is good as it is. On top of that, they’re always updating it – the most recent being that water update.

I’d like to see something new from MM. We need MORE new IPs this gen. All I’m seeing is sequels.

  3. I think could be interesting if they make a “zelda thing”. Sackboy in a 3d world, with dungeons and when u need open a door u will need a sticker (zeldas key way), and bosses, puzzles 3d, etc. Imagine a game title “SackTales”, Sackboy its a silent character, perfect for this tipe of adventure.

  4. I also question the need for a LBP 2. It’s not like there’s a plot that needs continuing or a shortage of game content. New features have been added to LBP1 and all that Sackboy DLC can’t really be sold a second time to the same punters. LBP seems as complete as it needs to be.

Modnation Racers is continuing the Play, Create, Share theme into the racing/karting genre so it seems that Sony might want to establish themselves as spearheading the console-mod movement.

That said, any new product from Media Molecule will be eyecatching. I’d welcome a Play, Create, Share game in a different genre to platforming or racing if it can be executed with as much charm and flair as was achieved in LBP.

My money is on something related to the Sony motion controller.
