Microsoft to publish Hydrophobia; new details and screenshots
by [@salromano] at 01:39 PM EDT, March 26, 2010 .

Dark Energy Digital has been teasing Hydrophobia‘s official unveil for about a week now with a countdown on the game’s official website. As PAX East opens today, Dark Energy announces Microsoft as the game’s publisher exclusively on Xbox LIVE Arcade, as well as offer brand new details and screenshots.

Hydrophobia is set in the near future where a massively over-populated world has caused the development of a city-scale ship where the wealthy live and tour the globe. The game provides a backstory detailing the rise of Malthusian politics and NanoCell, one of the Founding Fathers of the great vessel, who has vowed to develop technology to feed the growing population.

The game uses Dark Energy’s HydroEngine, described as “the first true fluid dynamics engine”, allowing models to flow in water in real-time, and truly simulate physics in “jaw-drapping authenticity.”

“Hydrophobia is set to be a trailblazing title which expands the spectrum of what is possible on Xbox LIVE Arcade,” Mark Coates, Producer at Microsoft Game Studios, said. “HydroEngine delivers a gameplay experience unlike anything you have seen before and, with awesome graphics and an epic backstory to boot, Hydrophobia really is the full package.”

I was astonished to find out that this game was going to be XBLA. Both the concept art and the Screenshots look amazing!. The idea behind the true fluid dynamic physics sounds really sweet!.
