We told you! Sony’s detailed the next firmware update for PlayStation 3, set to incorporate Facebook into the PlayStation Network.
Facebook on PlayStation 3 isn’t a fully-fledged Facebook application. Instead, you can choose to share trophy information or PlayStation Store activity in your Facebook feed. You’ll also be able to post game-specific information, which will be incorporated by game developers. Sony is looking into integrating more Facebook features in “future updates”.
Also in the update, Sony’s changed the photo display to a grid system, making the photos easier to browse.
Finally, you’re able to change the color of your gamer profile. This will also be reflected on the Friends List.
Here’s the preview video. No date announced yet.

Facebook is a great addition, just hope they don’t screw it up like 3.0
I just hope it doesn’t crash or screw with anything else like making MW2 freeze or U2 to reboot every 10 minutes.
Anyway, does anyone else find it odd that this is being released so quietly? Microsoft made a HUGE deal out of adding FB, Twitter and Last.fm apps and here’s Sony with their nonchalant “oh, well, you know, yeah… we got it too” style of release.
Again, Sony is starting to chip away at the strengths of XBL now that they have Netflix and FB and all for free. Add to the fact that you can actually hit your FB and Netflix page from the PS3′s web browser and the argument starts to earn credibility.
The community still has a long way to go and not everyone has a headset that encourages more connection with the community but Sony’s making the right moves.
Finally.
Oh yeah, the color change is lame. If anything needs a redesign it’s that stupid box.
Color me stupid. I had the video on mute and didn’t realize it.
Actually the improved web browser and photo gallery revisions are really nice. Still feel that the color change is weak but the fact that the box only appears when you highlight a friend is a HUGE improvement. I can only assume they have plans for those god-awful boxes so I guess we’re stuck with them.
And I’m still waiting for them to improve the pop-up controls too. And we need some new picture gallery slideshows and music visualizers too.
