Pro Evolution Soccer mastermind and executive producer Shingo Takatsuka has expressed his interests in the PS3 Wand and Project Natal, even saying that future editions of the soccer game will incorporate the new motion control.

“Up until 2009 we believed all the platforms should have the same controls and features,” he told IGN. “That’s no longer the case, because there are specific controllers for different machines, what with Natal and the PlayStation motion sensor system. I cannot say much, but I can say we are looking at integrating those devices into our games very aggressively.”

Imagine what people would look like in their living room, kicking an imaginary ball. Looks fun.

My earlier comment was in regards to Natal. I feel like it’s a step backwards in many ways primarily because of the loss of any sort of connection with what’s on the screen.

With no tactile force feedback or a device to provide some sense of control I feel like Natal will only make games more simple in order to account for less precise movements thereby lessening the immersion of the experience. Imagine trying to play Final Fantasy with just your hands? How you would switch from infrared goggles to a sniper rifle in Metal Gear Solid? What about basketball games? While doing crossovers or performing foul shots could be easy what about switching players or faking a shot but you pass it instead? Would the game pick up on the difference if you’d already lifted your hands?

My point is that while some movements would be good for motion control I just don’t see this being the future.
