Update: High-res scans here.

Original: Undoubtedly the most important thing in an RPG next to story is character growth. Final Fantasy XIII‘s character growth system has been revealed in next week’s Shonen Jump (it’s not officially released yet) and is similar to that of Final Fantasy X.

The Crystalium System, as it’s called, resembles the Sphere system seen in Final Fantasy X. Crystalium Points (or CP) will be earned in battle rather then experience points, and will be used to learn new abilities in the Crystalium System; after one ability is learned, another opens up. There’s no leveling up in this Final Fantasy.

Two small, very low-res scans are online thanks to The 13th Crystal. Expect high-res scans next week from either Shonen Jump or Famitsu, who will both likely be covering this.

It’s probably going to use the CS for everything. There would probably be an upgrade for HP, upgrade for STR, etc. and continuously add more as you go fill in all the holes.

Nice I like the look of it. I also thought the Shpere Grid in FFX was much better than the license board/gambits etc. I would say in theory it is still “levelling up”, but instead of simply displaying it as a number (level 23 etc) you choose/manually make your characters stronger. Works well in my book!
