I have been thinking about getting a playstation just so I can play my Blueray discs. Is it worth it or should I just get a regular player?

A regular player I believe would cost you much more. If you’re just using it for blu-ray, you should get a PS3, because if you ever decide later “Hey, I want to try that game out”, you can do that.

If you’re on this site you can expect EVERYONE to suggest you get a PS3 and chances are if you went to a site like CNET or Engadget you’d get the same reaction.

The reason the PS3 was so expensive was because Sony built the perfect Blu-ray player but now that parts and manufacturing prices have lowered (like they always do) the price is perfect based on everything you get.

Some Blu-ray players don’t come with wifi and others require you to download firmware updates on your computer first then transfer the files via a jump drive or SD card.

Not to sound like a Sony rep but the other advantages are downloading/renting movies and TV shows and, obviously, playing games. And with the motion controller coming out next year you can get your Wii-fix too.

If you buy a standalone Blu-ray player you’re cheating yourself.
