I’m just going to give you guys a status update regarding what’s been going on the past few days. We don’t want to go on without an explanation, of course.

On Wednesday, SCRAWL went offline due to overages charges we’ve received from our old host thanks to us going over our 1,000 GPU limit to 4,600 GPUs. A $360 overage was charged and payed off. However, if we were to remain online, we did not want to pay so much for overages on mediocre shared hosting. So we decided to move on.

We looked host after host and then on Saturday decided on Network Solutions. Not such a good idea considering even though a representative promised me top speed on a shared server for $35 a month, it was slow as hell. When we called in, they said there was nothing they can do about it, so we decided even though it’s a huge hassle moving five gigs worth of data, we’re going to get our money back and move one more time. This decision was made early yesterday.

Then we stumbled upon WiredTree (whom we highly recommend), where we bought our own Hybrid Server and are now paying $100 a month to keep this site up. Previously, we were paying $160 a year. But, if you visit the site now, you’re promised speed and 99.9% uptime.

However, $100 is a lot of money, which we’re not made of. We’re going to continue to write because it’s a passion at this site, but we need some help. A donation button is going up late Friday or early Saturday where you can donate whatever amount you can to help us keep this site up. You like the site if you’re here and I as well as you don’t want to see it go away. So throw us a bone or two.
