Sony’s rolling out new updates to PlayStation.com. By the end of this week, you’ll be able to log on to your account online and do enhanced trophy comparisons with friends, track your progress against friends, and carry around a new portable ID.

The new portable ID (seen above) is more detailed than the previous, featuring a trophy count and level indicator as well as the amount of each kind of trophies you’ve earned. The best feature of the new trophy card: it updates automatically.

The update will hit PlayStation.com by the end of the week. A video demonstration was also released.

It’s good to see Sony do SOMETHING new regarding Trophies. Like many other features of the PS3 it seems like Trophies were being left out in the cold.

They still need to give you the ability to remove games from your account. I rented Prince of Persia months ago and will NEVER play that game again (got bored with it after the first hour) and yet those trophies are weighing down my overall profile.

I still think they need to redesign the profile card (tile, whatever) on the PS3 but that’s another story.

I agree it is good that Sony is doing something, but talk about your half ass attempts. The new card looks okay, but where are my recent trophies? Where is my personalised background based on the last game I played? Where’s my comment? All of this is already being used on the PSN, but it hasn’t been incorporated into the new card? C’mon… Sony can’t be that far behind on this stuff. Besides, they can use MMOS and the EU cards as examples and copy/steal their designs.

I agree that they should give you the ability to remove games from your account, but then again I can see all the calls their support people would get once people start deleting their platinums by mistake. “Hello Support? Yes, my stupid little brother deleted all my games and all 35 platinums that went with them. Please, please tell me you can get them back!”

There are sooo many user created designs out there that users dedicated to Sony have created for them and are willing to give to Sony free of charge. On the playstation.us forum alone there are a few threads with mock-up designs, one in particular that is blow-your-mind-fantastic. Why Sony doesn’t leech these ideas off their own forums is beyond me. My guess is their hands don’t talk to their feet (poor communication).

Regarding deleting games from your account, I think Incredibillistic means only the ability to delete games with no trophies, just like Xbox LIVE allows you to do.
