Koller: PS2 backwards compatibility “won’t be returning”

Love playing that great collection of PS2 games? Me too. That’s why I have a 60GB PlayStation 3. However, for those without, you’re not going to be able to play those games, Sony hardware marketing director John Koller has said at GamesCom.
“[Backwards compatibility] won’t be returning,” Koller told Ars Technica “It’s not coming back, so let me put that on the table.”
“It’s not as big as a purchase intent driver as you may be hearing,” he explained. “We’ve got such a substantial lineup of titles on the PS3; most people are buying the PS3 for PS3 games. They’ve buying it for PS3 games and Blu-ray movies.”
So as for now, if you want to play PS2 games, it looks like you’re going to have to get a 60GB PS3 or go buy yourself a PS2.

Thankfully PS2′s are cheap to pick up these days. Luckily though I have a 60GB PS3 as I like playing PS2 games on the PS3 rather than a PS2 and composite video. Shame though, I would have loved the Slim to be BC.
Why SONY Why, I say this due to when the PS3 was released that they said it would be backwards compatible.
Yeah only for a short time though than they dumped it.
I hate playing my PS2 on my HD TV.
I’ll say this, Sony is a great company, but MAN they piss me off sometimes.
Even with this PS3 Slim, they sure gave us Australians alot of notice for it (NOT). And now it’s out in 2 friggen weeks. I feel sorry for people who went out and bought an 80gig for higher in price only to find out the cheaper, 120gig PS3 comes out sooner than we all thought.
There is just some things Microsoft is better at.
If there is no BC in the slim, there is no point in getting rid of my 80gig.
I suggest if you have an 80gig still, just keep it.
