80GB PlayStation 3 Discontinued In Japan

That’s right. Starting August 8, 2009, the 80GB PlayStation 3 will be discontinued in Japan, joining the already discontinued 20GB, 40GB, and 60GB models. This information comes from 7-Eleven, who sell video games in Japan.

The reason the model is being discontinued is “For the manufacturer”.

This discontinuation seems to fit well into play if Sony is planning on announcing that slim PlayStation 3 model in cologne this month, as the 160GB model is the only one left now in Japan.
