Fumito Ueda on Super Mario Galaxy and Grand Theft Auto IV
Fumito Ueda, the Team ICO mastermind behind Ico, Shadow of the Colossus, and the upcoming PlayStation 3 exclusive The Last Guardian, has expressed his feelings on games like Super Mario Galaxy and Grand Theft Auto IV, saying that the games were uninnovative and that “he expected more”.
On the topic of Super Mario Galaxy, Fueda said “Yes I have played it, it was hard to not to since it was rumored that Miyamoto-san was inspired by me. But I had expected more, that segment, was like the rest of the game not so fun as it could had been. I think the fans made a big deal out of nothing when they said Miyamoto had stolen from me.”
On to Grand Theft Auto IV: “The biggest problem with the game is the lack of innovative things in the game. The graphic style impresses, but not the base premise, which is exactly the same as the predecessors.”
Fumito Udea is currently heading development of The Last Guardian for PlayStation 3, due out in 2010.
