E3 ’09: ModNation Racers Is Next Up in “Play, Create, Share”

United Front Games and SCEA are bringing a brand new game to the PlayStation 3 called ModNation Racers. It is inspired by the Play, Create, Share tagline from LittleBigPlanet.
ModNation Racers will allow players to create their own race tracks and racers such as LittleBigPlanet allowed gamres to create their own levels. The tools shown looked like they are incredibly easy to use as players can simply paint their race track then add on environments and detours, etc. An original track was created from scratch in a matter of a few minutes.
The tracks created in the game will be shared online with the ModNation Racers community.
ModNation Racers will release in 2010.

My first thought was, this looks like Joy Ride for the 360 with characters that look like a mix between MS avatars and sackboys. Customizing characters and cars wasn’t the least bit interesting and the more I looked it the more I wondered why they didn’t use the Home avatars in this game.
But when they showed the track creation I got really interested! I’m definitely interested in getting this game.
I’m not sure if Home avatars would really fit the “Play, Create, Share” genre. I like the way United Front went about doing this.
