SCEA hardware marketing head John Koller says that this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo is going to be one of the biggest it’s been in the last eleven years.
“It’s going to be a big E3,†Koller told VG247, talking at GDC.
“We’ve just started planning what the announcements will be, but I’ve been here for 11 years: this will be one of the larger E3s in terms of software and just discussions about where we’re going from a brand perspective and where each of the platforms is headed.â€
So, Sony’s got some good plans for new games this E3 from what I’m reading. Koller does say that the larger side of the announcements will be on the software side.
“I think some of the big announcements are going to come of the software side. We talked a bit at Destination PlayStation, and came out with about half of the PSP line-up, maybe even less, and the balance we’re going to be talking about in the months leading up to e3 and at E3,†he said.
“The same goes for PS3. There’s a really strong line-up of games that’s going to help drive a lot of business.â€
June’s not too far away. Am I hearing Kingdom Hearts III?

While that sounds very optimistic, the truth is that Sony has no choice but to “bring it” at this E3 or they’ll suffer yet another year with disappointment.
While KZ2 is being touted as a huge hit it’s a far cry from what both Gears of War games did. The first did 3 million in about a month while the sequel managed to do 2 million in just about a week. It took 7 weeks for KZ2 to reach that. For Sony to brag about that is paltry.
One can only hope that Uncharted 2 and God of War III will do some impressive numbers. But the best chance of Uncharted 2 selling a million in its first week, or even GoWIII is a PS3 price drop. If Sony can manage to get the system down to $299 they’ll have a better chance of selling more hardware and software.
