Sony’s Big Announcement is PS2 for $100
Looks like that big announcement today didn’t have anything to do with the PlayStation 3. Turns out that today’s announcement is actually a really good price cut for the PlayStation 2. Really really good. The PS2 will be priced at $99.99 starting April 1, 2009. Now more gamers than ever can easily own a PS2 with the systems still expanding library of over 1,900 titles.
SCEA’s Hardware Marketing Director, John Koller, announced this: “Today I’m excited to talk about another milestone in PlayStation 2′s lifespan. For the first time ever, PlayStation 2 will be offered at a price point under $100 (that’s $99.99 MSRP, to be exact), starting April 1!”

Who gives a rat’s lower torso about the PS2? So what EA is still making games for it. EA would make a game for the Dreamcast if Sega hadn’t dropped it. They’re a whore for any system and is normally the first company onboard with any new console launch.
And why does an announcement like this need such build up? Just do it and don’t bother making a big deal out of it. Sony must be so desperate for the days of PS2 domination that they have to make a big deal out of dropping the system by $30 like it’s the second coming.
Sony should’ve packed in an extra controller and a title from the Greatest Hits collection. That would’ve been a little more exciting then just dropping the system for a price that most people have by now or don’t care about because they’re either trying to get a Wii or saving up for a PS3.
Yes, bring on the PS3 price drop. Drop that sucker to $299 and we’ve got ourselves a real battle. If anything they should’ve just left the PS2 alone and saved those cost cuts for the PS3 while still making money on the PS2.
One thing is that I dont think Sony made the hype what it was. That came from rapid fanboys. All they said was they had an announcement, nothing more. They could have quelled the rumors though from getting out of hand unless they have something else to announce to us soon. April 1st anyone? Just a dream.
Yeah if the hype wasn’t so big people wouldn’t of been so disappointed.
How was the hype big? Sony just told sites that they were announcing something on Tuesday.
