Sony Computer Entertainment has just released Killzone 2 last week as one of their most anticipated exclusives. So what has Microsoft got to say about Sony’s recently released hit? Apparently, they have some “unannounced Xbox 360 exclusives” that “far surpass what gamers have seen in any game so far.” See for yourself at the jump.

“We congratulate Sony and Guerilla Games for their efforts with Killzone 2, however this is only the beginning of a new wave. The current technology employed for certain unannounced Xbox 360 exclusives far surpasses what gamers have seen in any game so far. Gears of War was the beginning of this technological benchmark when released on the 360 and this lineage will be carried forward in the following months with exclusives that shall stand for a new definition of gaming experience and provide stiff competition for the opposition.”

All this is talking is just big company rhetoric.

Don’t believe it until you see it. If its true thats fine, but until they can prove otherwise, skeptical anyone should be.

Seriously? I guess the Xbox logo is green for a reason.

Like Eric says, until they actually deliver said content this is nothing more than worthless, hot air. What’s more interesting is that MS has always taken the position of not announcing and/or showing anything until it’s done. They’ve always been proud (and rightly so) of the fact that when they show something it’s usually out the day of or will be released within months of the announcement.

So whatever this so-called “far surpassing” power they have must be finished. Otherwise they’re pissing up a flagpole and, again, are extremely jealous of GG and Sony.

So what, they have a game that’s better looking and better playing than Gears of War? I’m not saying it’s impossible but talk about being overly confident. I remember another game that was labeled the “Halo killer” that got panned by many a critic. Oh yeah, it was KILLZONE!

Think about it this way: If MS wasn’t at least mildly afraid of Sony why bother saying anything at all? Just say “no comment” or that they’re proud of GG and Sony for KZ2 but that they’re very proud of their upcoming library also. Just give them credit where credit is due and move on. The whole “FAR surpasses” comment has the stench of fear.

Will it surpass the graphic quality of Uncharted 2? What about what Team ICO has cooking? You know they’re going to come out with some next level s*** that will blow everyone’s mind. Unless, maybe… maybe MS bought out that studio. Then MAYBE they have a chance at surpassing KZ2. Until then, as Eric pointed out, until they show it they’re just blowing smoke.

I read the article you got the quote from and the MS rep didn’t say that their unannounced games will far surpass Killzone 2 but will far surpass what anyone has seen.

Now, that could be taken as far surpassing KZ2 since it was the topic of conversation but he didn’t directly refer to KZ2. Still, when you put the two together it does suggest that he’s saying that what they have planned will look better than the technology they’ve used in the past.

The biggest question on my mind, however, is: why didn’t they say something about this sooner? Why wait until now to make that kind of statement? Why weren’t they talking about this a couple weeks or days ago? The stuff is being worked on so why not mention it earlier?

Again, I think they’re pissing in their boots at the power the PS3 is going to show this year with Uncharted 2, God of War III and Heavy Rain coming down the pike. I’d like to see them making something as beautiful and majestic as Flower.
