Resident Evil 5 Will Not Allow You to Run n’ Gun

Despite what Capcom’s Mike Webster said in an OXM interview recently on Xbox LIVE, you will not be able to move and shoot at the same time in Resident Evil 5. Why? Have you ever tried walking and shooting at the same time? It’s hard to hit your target, apparently. The design of standing still is supposed to reinforce the importance of co-op and your partner having your back. However, there will be “Action Controls” like previously said, it just won’t be run and gun.

Capcom’s Chris Kramer tells us “The newer controls (which are selectable from the easily-accessed Options menu while in game) allow players to choose from four control schemes. The first two (A and B) are very, very similar to what you would consider “classic” Resident Evil controls. The second pair (C and D) are newer variants, mostly focused on moving more natural motion to the second analog stick on your 360 or PS3 controller. For the first time, you will be able to strafe in a Resident Evil game, just not while shooting! C and D will be the right choices to experiment with if you are coming off of games like Lost Planet, Gears of War or Call of Duty. A and B are where you should stick if you have played past Resident Evil titles and want to stay true to the purity of the original.”

Admittedly I only played through one level one time (TV night with the wife) but I found not being to move and shoot to be a major drag but when in Rome…

The graphics were amazing. Better than I expected and even better on my Bravia! I’ll have to get used to running, turning around and seeing a zombie within inches of me but overall it was a pretty satisfying demo. Hope to get more time with it tomorrow. That is until I download the KZ2 demo from my newly created UK account ;)

Hey you americans can’t make fake european accounts! :)

But seriously I have to download the resident evil 5 demo to see if it is as good as number 4. I’m downloading the killzone 2 demo now so I’ll put up my opinion after I play it.

And incredibilistic what sony bravia do you have? I was actually going to buy a 46 inch Sony Bravia V series this weekend but I just want to see what you think of Sony Bravia TV’s.

I have a Samsung 46″ and for the price and great quality of it, I would take it over the Sony.

Yeah Samsung would be my second choice as it is about $1000 cheaper here in NZ but I was worried about it only having a 60Hz motion flow compared with Sonys 100Hz because as you know I enjoy gaming and the more Hertz is better so it doesn’t leave any tracing images during fast image movement like bullets flying from the gun.

I only have a 60hz and I never have any ghosting on screen. Ive heard of a few people having it, but even with mine just being 60 I have absolutely none on any games I play.

Oh ok thanks Eric I’ll do some more research on the Samsung TVs tomorrow and then I’ll see whether I want Sony or Samsung. At least we can agree not to get Panasonic with its HD-Ready crap.
