A recent interview with Rick White, a producer at Volition, revealed that the engine that powers Red Faction: Guerrilla, the Red Engine, is pushing the Microsoft Xbox 360 to it’s very limits… and that Volition is now looking forward to Microsoft’s next-gen system.
“Yeah, we’ve got it to the point where we can’t even put an extra vehicle into a world, because it’ll blow the memory” states Rick White in an interview with Gameplayer, “Every little change we make we have to be hyper-critical about it because it could just bring the whole system down.” Since the game is pushing various polygons and the very hardware to it’s limits, Volition had to hold back on the graphical side of things.
“We’re pushing so many polys with the destruction system it’s not going to look like your Gears of War 2,” joked Rick White on the subject of graphical power.
As for Microsoft’s new console and Volition’s plans? White states that, “as the consoles grow, be it the 720 or whatever, it’s going to increase our ability to deliver a better looking game with more destruction, or more dense environments.”

Might be a buggy by the sounds of it if they don’t get proper game testing. Is this game on PS3 as well?
It will be available on PC and PS3.
It would’ve been nice to get more information on what limitations they had. Was it JUST the memory of the system or was it the DVD. And since the game is coming out for the PS3 why didn’t he go into more detail about the game on the PS3 versus the 360 version.
My guess is that “pushing the limits” talk won’t end. First Naughty Dog with Uncharted 2 and I’m sure Team ICO — whenever they come from under their rock — will talk about pushing the boundaries of the system.
