No, no, this is not a western announcement of Yakuza: Kenzan!. This is the announcement of Yakuza 3, an entirely new game in development for PlayStation 3. Turns out they didn’t use the number “3″ in Kenzan because it wasn’t a direct sequel to Yakuza 2. Well played.
In this week’s Famitsu, producer Toshihiro Nagoshi revealed that over at Sega’s NE Software R&D Planning Section, Yakuza 3 — the direct sequel to the second game — is in development.
This game tells the story directly following the events of Yakuza 2. This title takes us back to Kamurocho, the setting of the first and second games, where protagonist Kazuma Kiryu takes the role as lead character once more.
Development on Yakuza 3 started once Kenzan was out the door. Lets hope that, unlike Kenzan, Yakuza 3 actually makes it overseas.
