PS3 v2.41 Brings New Platinum Trophy Look
July 8, 2008 / 04:00 PM EDT / (@)

It seems that with the new update today that Sony did change a few minor things. The main thing changed is the new appearance of the Platinum Trophies. Thanks to Multi-Gaming we have a nice comparison shot between the old crown looking trophy and the new crystal styled one.

The other thing that seems to be improved is the speed of the in-game XMB. It still isn’t as smooth as the normal XMB, but it at least seems to be faster than before when it had a good deal of noticeable lag. With time I think Sony will continue to improve on the in-game XMB, but it’s nice to see the current strides they have taken.

I think In-game XMB is completely pointless without In-game chat. You can’t acess anything but the gamercard…it’s still much of a basic thing, and kinda useless for me except for Trophies.

In-game messaging works. That’s good enough for me (for now). I’ll give Sony another year for in-game chat. I mean, they just gave us a new platinum trophy! LOL.

    @ Caelum

I disagree completely. In game messaging is invaluable as before you had to quit a game to check messages. Sure chat would be nice but that doesnt take away from messaging, which to me was and is the most wanted feature from people.

    just so you know…
there is also a huge boost in the speed of the PSN store.

The fact that they improved the look of the Platinum trophy gives me hope that they’ll start to make smaller improvements to the overall look of the profile card in the future. ‘Cause right now it’s ugly. Functional, but ugly.

I like the new additions of the Quit Game from the in-game XMB menu and the new off button added to the Users icon. It keeps you on the XMB instead of taking you away from it completely.

As for in-game chat; maybe it’s just me but I don’t have a lot of friends on my list that have headsets and even if they did I would probably never talk to them. Not because I don’t like them but only because I’d probably be too involved in the game I’m currently playing to spend time talking to someone else while I’m playing MGS4 and they’re playing Hot Shots Golf.

With a game like MGS4 I’d have to constantly tell them to shut up while watching hour long cutscenes.

The ability to check and send messages while in-game is good enough for me. Now I just need a USB keyboard so I can type faster and get back to the action.

yeah something i noticed today, dont open a message when your game is loading the next part, because it will freeze the system lol.

actually when the game is loading dont pull up the xmb at all
