More Questions Answered for Firmware v2.40

A quick interview with Eric Lempel from GameSpy reveals a bit more on tomorrow’s v2.40 update. First off, he yet again confirms there will be no voice chat as of now, but they will be rolling out even bigger things in the future.

In-Game XMB is only compatible with PLAYSTATION 3 titles as of now, as “gamers wanted it for the PS3 first”. The custom soundtracks on the XMB are restricted only to the HDD, no computer streaming.

Where it gets a bit “yucky” is here in the development corner. They are not forcing developers to make the game automatically pause when the in-game XMB is accessed.

They say they are “working with developers to hit a deadline” for trophies, but it is not something they want to force on them since it is time consuming. Although, in reality, that is a bad thing to do. The new trophy system is here, and such as Achievements with Live, these should be required in all games. Developers obviously have time to implement achievements, am I right? They say that ultimately in the end all games will have trophies, though.

Only one game will be patched tomorrow during the update and that is Super Stardust HD, and all other games such as Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune will get an update in the foreseeable future.

Turns out I was wrong on this one. Games such as Devil May Cry 4 and Burnout Paradise that have saves locked into the PLAYSTATION Network account will not have their data rolled over to our trophies, which really sucks.

I just picked up MGS4 and as I was watching Snake inhale nicotine I saw one of my friends had just logged on.

Never before have I been so aware of just how HUGE and ugly the PS3 notifier is and how Sony needs to address this by making it smaller and appear in a shorter time frame.

They don’t need to copy the location of the 360 achievement notifier but at least make it so that it’s not as big and for all that’s holy redesign it so it’s not so friggin’ boring.

I know I sound like a broken record but I’m probably going to continue to talk trash about the notifier until Sony changes it. You’ve been warned.
