PSP Update 4.00 Announced

Eric Lempel, Director of PLAYSTATION Network Operations, has updated us on the PlayStation.Blog that a new update should be hitting the PSP soon. That is update version 4.00.

The new update will add Google Internet search directly to the XMB interface. It will replicate the Google search experience, giving the same search results that you’d get using google.com, making web searches easier. The new search icon will be located under the XMB’s network icon.

Another new feature that will hit in the 4.00 update is the ability to change the viewing speed during playback of videos on your memory stick. It is as easy as pressing the up and down directional buttons as you watch.

Well that’s a step forward, not that I ever use google for my search engine, but if I did, I can now free up one book mark, wow.

A broswer that actually works would have been nice, something that can actually display pages without running out of memory.

Took the words right out of my mouth “Demibeard”! I love that the PSP will have more web functions but the browser is laughable right now. I’d almost be more comfortable with the PSP displaying pages for mobile devices rather than trying to display the page the way it displays on a computer because it just plain sucks as is.

There’s no scroll bar. NO SCROLL BAR!!! And as “Demibeard” stated, the memory on the PSP sucks as certain pages error out because of the memory constraints on the system.

What’s even more of an insult is that Nintendo, a company not famous for outfitting their devices with abilities outside of playing games (even the Wii can’t play DVD movies), was able to get the browser working perfectly on the DS.

Here’s hoping Sony’s next internet venture is to get Firefox working on the PSP!
