Hideo Kojima confirmed at a game showcase last night in San Francisco (once again) that Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots will be the “final episode” for our legendary hero, Solid Snake.

Kojima spoke on the completion of the game. “Designing [Metal Gear Solid 4 and Metal Gear Online] was quite a task, and I’m relieved for the moment,” he said to the crowd. Kojima went on to say that Metal Gear Solid 4 represented the “grand finale” for the 20-year old series, as well as the “final episode of the Solid Snake saga” and “Snake’s final mission.”

For those thinking he is going to make a Metal Gear with a new protagonist, I think that Kojima made it pretty clear that Metal Gear is over. Now let us look forward to Zone of the Enders 3.

yeah as much as I hate it, all good things must come to an end.

I won’t say I’m confident Metal Gear is over. I know Kojima won’t be at the helm, and I know Solid Snake won’t be around for it (one way or another) but for some reason I’m not confident this will be the end of Metal Gear altogether.

I hope it is the end though, it seems like it’s supposed to wrap up a LOT (if not all) loose ends of the Metal Gear story…if they made more it might drag on and lose a lot of its charm…
